Biden Congratulates DeSantis on 'Great Job' After Florida Governor Rejected Call from Kamala

After claims that Gov. Ron DeSantis has been sending Vice President Kamala Harris' calls straight to voicemail made headlines, Biden says he gave the Florida governor a call, praising his work and even sharing his personal phone number.

Biden relayed his recent conversation with DeSantis (FL-R) to the press on Tuesday.

"The governor of Florida has been cooperative. He's said he's gotten all that he needs. I talked to him again yesterday and I [said], 'I know you're doing a great job. It's all being done well. We thank you for it,'" the president said over the phone Monday evening. "And I literally gave my personal phone number to call."

The phone call follows reports from a source in DeSantis' office claiming the Governor refuses to take calls from Harris, even as the region grapples with the impact of Hurricane Helene and braces for Hurricane Milton.

In response to allegations that DeSantis has put politics before his duty to Florida in a time of crisis, the governor called Harris "delusional."

"She's the first one who's trying to politicize the storm, and she's doing that just because of her campaign," he told Fox News Tuesday. "I don't have time for political games. I've got people whose lives are on the line."

Biden's statement downplayed any tension between his office and DeSantis.

"There was a rough start in some places," he said. "But every governor from Florida to North Carolina has been fully cooperative and supportive and acknowledged what this team is doing."

"They're doing an incredible job, but we've got a lot more to do," Biden added, indicating it was time to move on and get back to work.
