Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin acknowledged on Wednesday that the Biden administration's choice to arm both Ukraine and Israel has impacted the United States' supply of weapons. Austin stated that providing security assistance to these allies has depleted certain items from the inventory.
Despite this strain, Austin emphasized that supporting allies like Ukraine and Israel leads to the replenishment of US weapon supplies and boosts job creation. He explained that when the US provides weapons to other countries, it prompts the replacement of those items with newer and more advanced ones, which are manufactured domestically, thereby supporting the American workforce.
Austin highlighted the importance of these actions in enhancing the military capabilities of the US. He acknowledged that while this process may take some time, it ultimately strengthens the country's position in terms of national defense.
The Defense Secretary also mentioned that the Biden administration has been collaborating with the industry to enhance the capacity of the US industrial base. By working with manufacturers, the government aims to expand production capabilities to meet the demands for new weapons and munitions.
