After offering Arghya, worshippers light a lamp and recite Aditya Hriday Stotra, Suryashtaka or Surya Chalisa. Donations of wheat, jaggery, copper utensils and red clothes are also considered significant and are made according to one's capacity.
Why Is Bhanu Saptami Considered Important?
In Hindu belief, Lord Surya is regarded as a visible form of Narayana, or Lord Vishnu. Because of this connection, devotees often worship him as Surya Narayan.
Bhanu Saptami holds a unique place among festivals dedicated to the Sun God, and its significance becomes even greater when it occurs during Purushottam Maas. Devotees observe the occasion seeking blessings for health, success and family well-being.
A Day Linked to Health, Fortune and Devotion
The festival stands out because Lord Surya is one of the few deities whose presence is directly visible every day. This has made Sun worship an enduring tradition in Sanatan Dharma.
Religious beliefs also hold that the spiritual merit earned through Surya Puja on Bhanu Saptami is comparable to the merit associated with donations made during a solar eclipse. For many devotees, the day offers an opportunity to combine prayer, charity and devotion while seeking the blessings of Surya Narayan.
