Bettor puts $20,000 to win $1.2 million on Tiger Woods at PGA Championship

Tiger Woods is feeling pretty good these days, all things considered.

The golf icon will be back in action for the PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma this week, making his second appearance this season after previously competing at the Masters in April. Oh, and he’s pretty sure he can contend for the Wanamaker Trophy, too.

“I feel like I can, definitely,” Woods told reporters on Tuesday.  “I just have to go out there and do it. I have to do my work. Starts on Thursday and I’ll be ready.”

He’s not the only one who believes in his chances. One bettor at Caesar’s Sportsbook in Nevada dropped $20,000 on Woods to win the PGA Championship this weekend. At 60-1, that ticket would pay out $1.2 million if it cashes.

Woods did win the PGA Championship the last time it was held at Southern Hills back in 2007. He’s also confident that he won’t fade on Sunday like he did at the Masters in large part because the layout of the course in Tulsa should be a bit easier on his body.

“I got more and more tired [in the Masters] and more fatigued,” Woods said. “I didn’t have the endurance that I wanted. I mean, I shouldn’t expect it because I didn’t earn it. I didn’t go out there and I hadn’t done the work but we were able to put in a little bit more work and it’s going to get better as time goes on. As the months pass and it’s going to get better.”

Over at Tipico Sportsbook, Tiger to win the PGA Championship (+7000) accounts for 17 percent of all bets placed and 13 percent of all money wagered through Tuesday. That should begin to tick up a bit more as we get closer to Woods’ tee time on Thursday.

Even still, you hardly need 1.2 million reasons to root for Tiger after all he’s gone through the past two years. Getting to watch him play at all after his horrific car accident 2021 is still just plain remarkable.
