'Better come with Champions League' - Arsenal fans react to club's latest ticket prices decision

Arsenal have announced that all season tickets and matchday tickets will rise by 4% from next season.

A statement on the club's website read: "After holding General Admission ticket prices flat for seven consecutive seasons, all season tickets and matchday tickets will be going up by 4% for season 2022/23."

They continued by explaining that they understand concern around price increases but it's a necessary action moving forward.

"We recognise that no one welcomes price increases, and this decision has not been taken lightly," the club added. "Ultimately in the face of continued rising costs, we need to continue to drive growth in all our revenue streams – including matchday – as part of our aim to return our finances to a break-even position in the medium term."

Prices are dependent on where the Gunners finish in the Premier League this season as there will be a further increase for additional European games.

The club also confirmed that they will be improving the Emirates Stadium, work that "includes a major refurbishment of the roof, new big screens, turnstile readers to speed up entry, and the wraps outside".

It's led to a mixed response from some Arsenal fans. Some understand that inflation was inevitable following the pandemic, whilst others are fairly angry at the increase. A small section of fans have even viewed it as a positive because the statement considers Champions League football, the competition the Gunners are desperate to play in again.

Take a look at some of what's been said on Twitter below.

@DarrenArsenal1 said: "The season ticket rise will generate £2.5m ... utterly ridiculous and penalises those that frankly get treated so poorly with game changes etc. Given the huge rises in broadcasting there is no justification for it at all."

@amaan_mxlik7 said: "We're on the up."

@Templekachus said: "Things are really going up, it's not @Arsenal's fault."

@_BlackStarJoel said: "That better come with Champions League football or run that back."

@GianlucaFresh said: "Four percent, Arsenal? Four? That's insane."

@Kravence said: "Minor if we make ucl."

@Alex2006_ said: "Disappointed but not surprised."

@afc_suk said: "Wow they getting ready for CL nights...."

It's a big decision from the club and fans will be hoping that the extra revenue gained is properly reinvested as the board have promised.
