Betfred created around 500 jobs during its latest financial year despite its profits being slashed by nearly £200m because of the Covid-19 lockdowns.
The betting giant, which is headquartered in Birchwood near Warrington, has posted pre-tax profits of just over £6m compared to the £204.5m it posted in the prior 12 months.
Betfred added that its turnover had risen by £1m to £525.9m in the year to September 26, 2021, because of the performance of its internet betting operations during the lockdowns.
