European giant Beta Film, known for ambitious titles such as 'Babylon Berlin' and 'The Swarm,' has unveiled a first-look picture of its upcoming 10-part series 'Rise of the Raven,' which is being touted as one of the most epic European TV productions of all time. The series, a passion project of producer Robert Lantos, revolves around the remarkable story of Hungarian army commander Janos Hunyadi, portrayed by Gellért L. Kádár, who achieved a historic victory in the Battle of Belgrade in 1456 against a much larger Ottoman force.
Hunyadi's strategic brilliance and military innovations, including the use of artillery and firearms, played a crucial role in halting Ottoman expansion in Europe for the next seven decades. The series captures the essence of Hunyadi's triumph and the impact it had on European history, with Pope Callixtus III even ordering daily bell tolls in celebration of his victory.
