Best-selling baby food recalls rice product amid allergy fears

The UK's best-selling baby food brand has recalled one of its flavours because of undeclared gluten inside the pack.

Ella’s Kitchen has cleared shelves of Banana Multigrain Baby Rice as it a possible health risk for babies with coeliac disease, an allergy or intolerance to oats or gluten. The Food Standards Agency says the inclusion of oats also makes the food thicker than it should be for a 4month+ product.

The baby food is the Britain's best-known baby food brand, and is widely available in all major supermarkets and other retail outlets. A statement from Ella's Kitchen said: "If you have bought Ella's Kitchen Banana Multigrain Baby Rice, do not feed this to your little one."

Products can be recalled for lots of different reasons - for example, possible contamination, misleading or incorrect labels or allergens. If you've bought a product that's been recalled, you have the right to a refund thanks to the Consumer Rights Act. The retailer that sold it should offer you a full refund, even if it's been in your cupboard or freezer for a while. Even if you've already consumed the product or thrown it away, you are still entitled to a refund if you can provide proof of purchase such as a receipt, bank statement, or online order confirmation.
