5 of the best-rated beaches within 2 hours of Nottingham

After a long autumn and winter, the sun has finally got its hat on. With the Easter weekend coming up, many people will be hoping the pleasant weather sticks around as they are thinking about heading to a beach.

It's a perfect time to get the swimming costumes out, take a dip and grab yourself some tasty fish and chips. Obviously Nottinghamshire is landlocked - but there are a number of seaside resorts nearby.

Below we've put together a list of best-rated beaches within around two hours' drive from our area. The ratings are based on Tripadvisor reviews.

Skegness beach

This is an award-winning, spacious sandy beach with traditional seaside amusements. Skegness beach in Lincolnshire is one of the most popular in the country.

It has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 on Tripadvisor. Out of 942 reviews, 524 are 'excellent'.

One lover of Skegness beach said on the site: "It's an amazing place. You can walk for miles and enjoy this wonderful place." Others said they found the beach to be "clean and tidy" and "great for families".

Mablethorpe beach

It's an attractive golden sandy beach offering a fun-filled, family-friendly day out on the East Coast. Mablethorpe beach is rated 4.5 out of 5 on Tripadvisor.

Of the 698 reviews, 506 are 'excellent'. One person said: "We visited this beach as it was close to where we are staying and it's absolutely beautiful.

"We could have been in a different county it was so good." Someone else commented: "Great beach for anything really - sunbathing, kids, games, walking the dog."

Anderby Creek beach

Anderby Creek is a long, sandy beach on the Lincolnshire coast. Located between Chapel St Leonards and Skegness to the south, and Sandilands and Mablethorpe to the north, it is an excellent spot for a long walk up or down the coast.

Over on Tripadvisor, it has a rating of 4.5 out of 5. Out of 193 reviews, 131 are 'excellent'.

One visitor there said: "The beach is long, sandy and absolutely beautiful. It's amazing how many dogs are on the beach having the time of their lives - fortunately the doggie community come prepared and clean up after themselves."

Cleethorpes beach

This is another picturesque place in Lincolnshire. Not far from Nottingham, Cleethorpes beach gives ample opportunity to sit in the sun or paddle in the waters off the coast.

Beachgoers can also visit the arcades or do something more active and go stand up paddle-boarding or kite surfing. Cleethorpes beach is rated 4 out of 5 on Tripadvisor.

Out of 328 reviews, 154 are 'excellent'. One reviewer remarked: "It's a really lovely beach."

Sandilands beach

Sandilands in Lincolnshire is a clean and picturesque beach and is dog friendly all-year-round. It is a popular coastal attraction yet the beach is so vast that it still offers a very peaceful experience and provides plenty of space for everyone to enjoy themselves.

Sandilands beach is rated 4.5 out of 5 on Tripadvisor. Of the 58 reviews, 41 are 'excellent'.

One person said: "The beach is great on a lovely, sunny day. The beach stretches for miles and miles…and miles - enjoy."
