Best mouse and keyboard settings in Modern Warfare 4 Beta for smooth aim and movement

If you want sharper aim and smoother movement in Modern Warfare 4, dialing in the right mouse and keyboard settings can make a notable difference. We tested the available options to find an MnK setup that delivers responsive movement and more consistent aiming.

Before jumping into the MW4 Beta, here are the best mouse and keyboard settings to use.

Quick Summary

  • Use a mouse sensitivity that lets you make a 180-degree turn with one swipe.
  • Turn on Sprint Assist but leave the Mantle Assist off.
  • Avoid making frequent changes to help build and maintain muscle memory.

  • Aiming Input Device: Mouse
  • Mouse Sensitivity: Personal preference
  • ADS Sensitivity Multiplier: 1.00
  • Look Inversion: Standard
  • Simplified Controls Preset: Off
  • Low Motor Strain Preset: Off
  • Mouse Advanced Settings
    • Custom Sensitivity Per Zoom: Off
    • ADS Sensitivity Transition Timing: Instant
    • ADS Sensitivity Type: Relative
    • 3rd Person ADS Correction Type: Precision
    • Monitor Distance Coefficient: 1.78 (16:9 screen monitor)
    • Mouse Calibration: Default
    • Constrain Mouse to Game Window: Off

Your mouse sensitivity ultimately depends on your mouse, DPI, and how much space you have available on your desk. If you have plenty of room for arm movement, a lower sensitivity is generally easier to control. A sensitivity of 5.0 and below is a good starting point, while those who rely more on wrist movement could go with something higher.

A rule of thumb is to make sure you can turn around 180 degrees with a single swipe. This lets you quickly react to enemies behind you without having to lift your mouse several times. Once you find a sensitivity that feels comfortable, stick with it instead of constantly changing it so you can build consistent muscle memory.

For reference, I use 4.12 sensitivity at 1600 DPI. The ADS Sensitivity Multiplier can stay at the default 1.00, although lowering it to around 0.90 or 0.95 is worth trying if you want slightly slower ADS tracking.

The Monitor Distance Coefficient is set to 1.78 here for a 16:9 monitor to keep hip-fire and ADS movements feeling more consistent. If you primarily play snipers, the default 1.33 can be a better option because it scales sensitivity more tightly toward the center of the screen.

Keybind settings

The default keybinds are already a solid starting point, so there is no need to make major changes unless you have a specific preference. The main change I’d recommend is moving Lethal and Tactical Equipment to your mouse side buttons. This makes it easier to throw equipment while keeping your other fingers ready for movement.

  • Sprint Assist: On
    • Sprint Assist Delay: 0
  • Mantle Assist: Off
  • Corner Slice: On
  • Crouch Behavior: Toggle
  • Prone Behavior: Toggle
  • Sprint/Tactical Sprint Behavior: Toggle
  • Automatic Airborne Mantle: Off
  • Slide Maintains Sprint: On
  • Movement Advanced Settings
    • Walk Behavior: Hold
    • Grounded Mantle: Off
    • Slide/Dive Activation: Independent
    • Slide/Dive Behavior: Standard
    • Tactical Sprint Activation: Single Tap Sprint
    • Plunging Underwater: Free
    • Auto Door Peek: Off
    • Change Camera Side Activation: Sprint/Tactical Sprint/Focus
    • Look Keys Sensitivity Horizontal: 1.00
    • Look Keys Sensitivity Vertical: 1.00
  • Vehicle Behaviors: Default

Sprint Assist should be turned on with the delay set to 0 to make movement more responsive without relying on automatic Tactical Sprint. I recommend avoiding automatic Tac Sprint because it can make your ADS time slower, making you less ready to aim when you encounter an enemy.

Keeping Mantle Assist and Automatic Airborne Mantle off also gives you more control. These options can cause unwanted movement when you’re trying to navigate around cover or maintain a specific position. Meanwhile, having Slide Maintains Sprint turned on is useful for keeping your movement fluid when slide canceling.

  • Aim Down Sight Behavior: Hold
  • Dedicated Melee Weapon Activation: Hold Melee
  • Weapon Mount Activation: Toggle
  • Combat Advanced Settings
    • > Change Zoom Activation: Personal preference
    • > Weapon Mount Exit: Instant
    • > Interact Behavior: Press
    • > Interact/Reload Behavior: Tap to Reload
    • > Focus Behavior: Hold
    • > Mantle Cancels Reload: On
    • > Depleted Ammo Weapon Switch: On
    • > Armor Plate Behavior: Apply All
    • > Equipment Behavior: Hold
    • > C4 Detonation Activation: All at Once
    • > Manual Fire Behavior: Press
    • > Akimbo Behavior: Independent
    • > Weapon Mount Movement: On
    • > Underhand Throw Activation: ADS
  • Mode Specific Overlays: Default
  • Overlay Advanced Settings: Default

For combat, Aim Down Sight Behavior is best set to Hold if you want direct control over when you’re aiming. You can adjust this based on your personal preference, but Hold is particularly useful for fast-paced gunfights.

Set Weapon Mount Exit to Instant so you can immediately leave a mounted position when an enemy pushes you. Weapon Mount Movement should also be turned on, allowing you to have some mobility while mounted instead of becoming completely stationary.

Another important setting is Depleted Ammo Weapon Switch. Turning this on automatically switches you to your secondary weapon when your primary runs out of ammunition. The rest of the combat settings can generally remain at their defaults. There is no need to change every option simply for the sake of customization.

These mouse and keyboard settings provide a strong starting point for MnK players in MW4 Beta, but sensitivity and keybinds are ultimately personal. Your DPI, mousepad size, monitor aspect ratio, and preferred playstyle all affect what feels comfortable.

Start with the recommended settings, then make small adjustments rather than changing several options at once. Most importantly, once you find a sensitivity and control setup that works, stick with it long enough to develop muscle memory.

FAQ

Is it better to use mouse and keyboard instead of a controller in Modern Warfare 4?

Generally, no. Controllers can still have an advantage because of aim assist, particularly in close-range gunfights. However, MnK can offer more precise aiming and movement with the right settings.

What is the best mouse sensitivity for Modern Warfare 4?

There is no single best sensitivity because it depends on your DPI and playstyle. A good rule is to use a sensitivity that lets you turn around 180 degrees with one swipe.

Should I use Hold or Toggle for ADS in MW4?

Hold is recommended if you want more direct control over aiming. It lets you immediately return to hip-fire as soon as you release the ADS key.
