Amazon Prime Day 2024: Last chance DIY deals on cordless drills and more

DIY experts are all too aware that the to-do list is never done.

There’s always a job on the go, be it a full-blown room renovation or something as simple as tightening loose screws.

According to B&Q's The Way We Live Now report, more women are dusting off their toolboxes and tackling DIY lists. Some 82 per cent of women surveyed said they felt more empowered to take on home improvement challenges thanks to watching how-tos and home transformation videos online.

The research also found about the same percentage of Gen Z men and women were confident in performing DIY tasks: 69 per cent to 73 per cent.

It’s heartening that more people are getting stuck into the world of DIY. The thing is, all those tools don’t come cheap. That’s why when a sale comes along to reduce the cost of the big power tools, it’s a reason to sit up and pay attention.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon’s flagship sale is called Prime Day and takes place in July with only Prime members able to take part. Amazon opens the doors to its virtual warehouse, allowing bargain hunters to scoop deals over two days. But in recent years, the retailer has added more events to the discount fun and there are now sales in both March and October too.

When is the official Amazon Prime Big Deal Days in 2024?

Amazon has announced that its Prime Big Deal Days will take place on October 8 and 9.

How to take part in Amazon Prime Big Deal Days

The Amazon Prime Big Deal Days is an exclusive event for Prime members only. Luckily, you can get a 30-day trial if you haven’t signed up already to give membership a spin.

Prime membership is worth the £8.99pm cost (or £95 a year if you’d rather pay annually). There’s express delivery, freebies on Deliveroo, access to movies, TV and music plus gaming, books and so much more. Students get a sweeter deal at £4.49 per month or £47.49 per year.

Also helping make life simpler is Bosch Speed Preselection, which – as it sounds– lets you preselect your speed so that it’s precision-matched to the material you’re working on.

Good to go on masonry, wood, stone, metal and tile, the 700 has an auxiliary handle that affixes to the front to afford greater control and comes with a cable length – yes, this one is wired – of 2.5m, which should be ample for most home uses.

Now on the numbers side of things, the Bosch is a speed demon at 0-3000rpm, while torque sits at 17Nm, making the Universal Impact 700 a great all-round home hammer drill.
