Bristol is blessed with beautiful green spaces surrounding the edge of our city. From the stunning Mendip hills to South Gloucestershire's never-ending countryside. For those happy to trek a bit further, South Wales is less than an hour away, boasting breathtaking beaches.
Dorset and Devon are just over an hour away, and again, showcases some of the finest coastlines in the UK. All of these locations offer a wide variety of campsites, which are ideal to head to for a weekend in nature.

One Reddit user took to the social media platform on the hunt for people's favoruite spots for a pitching a tent.. Titled ‘Best campsites to travel to from Bristol’ the post said: “Where would you recommend going camping that’s not too far from Bristol? Also any nice places to hike around Bristol? Other fun activities?”
The post received over 40 comments, with many suggesting some brilliant places not far from the city, while others were slightly further away they had great views to offer. The person specifically wanted recommendations for places you can reach using public transport.
One of the places suggested was Beeches Farm Campsite in Chepstow. Overlooking the Wye Valley, the campsite offers brilliant views of the Welsh countryside and great routes to walk through woodlands. Campers are allowed ‘fire pits’, with the site being ideal for families, small groups, couples and individuals in tents.
One commenter said: “Beeches over towards Chepstow. It’s on the Offa’s Dyke path and it’s an easy walk down to Tintern Abbey and the pub next door …”
While another said: “Just did this on the train last weekend, walking from Chepstow train station. Campsite is fantastic. One of the best. But watch out - the bridge to Tintern is out of action at the moment so walking to the pub and back is a bit of a killer. Still recommended though”
Another campsite that received a few recommendations from commenters was Daggerwood which was easily accessible by public transport. Located by Clutton, the campsite invites people to ‘wild camp’ in the beautiful Somerset countryside.
One commenter said: “Daggerwood campsite just by Clutton is quite nice, just off a main road with a bus stop nearby as well if you want to do public transport.”
Another person wrote: “Second this! also, if you go to dagger wood i would also recommend checking out rockaway park which is like a 10 min drive from there, one of the coolest places i’ve ever been to. They have a vegan cafe as well."
One commenter also recommeded a brilliant place called Lone Wolf located near Neath. While this one is only accessible by car, they said: “It's affordable, it's on this lovely farm flush with lazy sunbathing cats, you have the option of camping in a traditional hedge lined field or down in the woods. The woods are like travelling to another world, there's a babbling brook you can swim in, fish too if you're optimistic. There's rocks around the place you can use to build your own little stone kilns so you can cook dinner over your own fire. It's absolutely fantastic.”
