One doesn’t realise just how magical a food processor truly is until one uses the wondrous device in the kitchen for the very first time. Designed to mix, blitz, blend, purée, knead, shred, dice and grind every ingredient under the sun, they take the elbow grease out of food preparation and serve as a robotic kitchen butler that always gets the job done.
Food processors first rose to popularity in the early 1960s as heavy-duty machines for industrial kitchens (the Robot-Coupe), but by the 1970s a smaller version had been invented and was marketed as an essential device for the classic housewife (the Magimix).
Historical precedence aside, the Magimix remains one of the most popular branded food processors across the globe because each and every device is still handmade in a French factory in the former mining centre of Montceau-les-Mines, 70 miles southwest of Dijon.
Though we’ve come a long way from mid-century housewifery, a food processor always seems to manage to weasel its way onto a wedding registry. After all, who can resist a robotic helping hand?
Food processors by the likes of Magimix, Cuisinart, Ninja and more don’t exactly come cheap. Luckily for us, Black Friday is just around the corner, which means we can expect jaw-dropping deals on everything from classic gadgets and tech to kitchen appliances, accessories and – of course – food processors.

Ninja 3-in-1 Food Processor & Blender
While few of us have our very own sous chef on hand to make life easier in the kitchen, this sturdy dream machine is the next best option. Unlike any other food processor we tested, it takes the guesswork out of cooking for top-notch results every time. Add an accessory and Ninja’s Auto-IQ technology will calculate exactly what program you will need and how long it should run for. It’s easy to override this and use the controls manually instead, but we found the automatic settings worked brilliantly for everything from cake mixes to chopped vegetables.
Everything you need is inside the box including a dough blade and reversible slicing/grating disc though beware, this is brutally sharp. Removable parts are all dishwasher safe for easy cleaning too. The machine also comes with a 2.1 litre blender jug and an additional 700ml single serve cup which is great for whizzing up individual drinks on the go.
Our only complaint? The powerful 1200W motor is seriously noisy so might not be the best choice in an open-plan kitchen or small flat unless you’re actively trying to annoy your neighbours.

When is Black Friday 2024?
Thanksgiving 2024 falls on Thursday, November 28, which means Black Friday is set to be on November 29.
When does Black Friday end?
Despite its singular name, Black Friday spans the entirety of the Thanksgiving weekend and is followed up with the highly anticipated Cyber Monday on December 2.
Why is it called Black Friday?
Businesses and retailers who have otherwise been ‘in the red’ throughout the year can expect to be ‘in the black’ (profitable and booming) following post-Thanksgiving sales – hence the well-known moniker. This is one of the many theories behind the name.
