Best aloe vera drinks to try in 2024, and the benefits explained

The spiky succulent known as aloe vera is cultivated in subtropical regions across the globe and has been used in homeopathic practices for centuries.

However, no matter how controversial natural medicine is deemed by critics, the cooling and healing power of aloe vera is one of the rare plant-based remedies that remains universally undisputed; just ask anyone who has had a particularly painful sunburn, or an adverse reaction to an unbearably itchy insect bite.

While the topical use of smooth and supple aloe vera extract in the form of gels and creams is well known, the delightfully green plant is also filled to the brim with delicious and immune boosting properties that can be enjoyed, rather surprisingly, in beverages.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, juice from the aloe vera plant is a low-calorie, low-sugar beverage which contains oodles of antioxidants – particularly beta carotene, which helps the body to produce vitamin A. It’s also rich in vitamin C, calcium, and magnesium.

Aloe vera extract is an incredibly hydrating substance, not only due to the fact that it’s rich in vitamins and minerals, but because it’s mostly water (approximately 98.5 per cent). Together with all those health-boosting properties, you can expect to form an angelic, uber -hydrated aloe-induced glow by consuming the refreshing elixir.

We chatted to Ellie Marsden at T4, a popular Taiwanese bubble tea chain known for their teas with added aloe vera, for some further insight into aloe vera drinks.

“T4 uses real chunks of aloe vera in our drinks. These are sourced from pure aloe vera and we then soak them in their natural juices to bring out the natural flavour,” says Marsden. “Research shows that aloe vera has many health benefits, including accelerated wound healing, anti-aging and blood sugar management.”

Marsden continues, “When added to bubble tea, Aloe Vera has a smooth, chewy texture that makes your drink a real textural treat. My favourite way to enjoy aloe vera is in our Lychee Black Tea with Aloe bubble tea, sweet, chewy and refreshing!”

We’ve curated a selection of the best, refreshing and delicious aloe vera drinks to try in 2024. It’s time to say hello to delicious aloe.
