Bernardo Silva makes Man City's "missing" trophy priority clear to Liverpool

Bernardo Silva says winning the Champions League this season is the priority for Manchester City.

City are locked in an epic title tussle with Liverpool, who they face on Sunday, and are also up against Jurgen Klopp's side in the FA Cup semi-finals. But Bernardo admitted the Champions League is the one trophy City's players are desperate to add to their otherwise glittering CVs.

“It's a competition that maybe just Scott Carson won, Pep as well, but the club has never won it,” said Bernardo. “Most of us have never won it, so we really want to do it. It's the only one missing and we want to go for it again. The team today is well-prepared for these kinds of moments and games.

"We were a great team five seasons ago, but I think the team is much better prepared for these moments. We know what the team needs when we concede or score, we know what to do in the good or bad moments. We keep learning from our mistakes and that's a good thing.

“It comes with experience. We have our disappointments, we learn from that and this year I think the team is very well prepared to do well in this competition."

Manager Pep Guardiola added: "In the Champions League I always overthink. I always create new tactics and ideas, and tomorrow you will see a new one. I overthink a lot, that's why I have very good results in the Champions League. I love it. It would be boring if I always played the same way.

"If people think I will play the same against Atletico and Liverpool, I don't think like that, because the movements from Liverpool are completely different than Atletico - especially because the players are all different. That's why I love to overthink and create stupid tactics and, when we don't win, I'm punished. Tonight I will take inspiration and I'm going to do incredible tactics tomorrow. We'll play with 12 tomorrow."
