Bernardo Silva aims dig at referee over Man City disallowed goal vs Liverpool

Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has criticised the decision to disallow their goal in their defeat to Liverpool.

The Reds claimed a dramatic 1-0 victory over Man City in the Premier League clash at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. Mohamed Salah scored the only goal of the game in the second half to hand the Reds a much needed win.

It was a first win in the top flight for Liverpool since the end of August. Next up for Liverpool is another home clash in midweek, this time welcoming West Ham to Anfield.

Before Salah opened the scoring, Man City thought they had a goal through Phil Foden. After a VAR check, referee Anthony Taylor disallowed the strike for a foul by Erling Haaland on Fabinho in the build-up.

Silva, speaking after the game, expressed his irritation at the decision to disallow the goal. The Man City midfielder pointed to “consistency” as a reason for his annoyance.

“What we expect from the referees is consistency in decisions,” Silva told Sky Sports.

“When you go through a path of not whistling little contacts throughout the whole game, you need to keep those decisions and keep going that way.

“If you want to whistle all of them, whistle all of them, if from the beginning you’re not whistling little fouls, we saw in this game he was letting us play - which is good, which is fine - then if there’s a goal you can’t whistle that one, it’s soft.

“Yep, if you want consistency from the referee you cannot change because it’s a tough decision, you have to keep the goal in my opinion.”
