David Rogers went looking for a southern right whale, but it was a dark, curved dorsal fin slicing through water 20 metres off the rocks that stopped him in his tracks.
Positioned on Tathra Headland on the morning of September 6, the photographer captured rare drone footage of a male orca playing with what appeared to be the remains of a fresh kill.
"I was waiting there for about an hour and couldn't really see anything, but then something grabbed my attention," Mr Rogers told ACM's Bega District News.
