Bennett provides Rangers chief executive update after search 'slowed down'

John Bennett has admitted the search to appoint a new chief executive at Rangers has been impacted by the Ibrox construction delay.

The Ibrox chairman was quizzed on whether the appointment of a new CEO was close in a Rangers TV interview.

And while Bennett is hopeful of bringing news of a new employee in the position soon he did concede arranging an alternative venue took the priority in recent months.

"I wouldn't say that absolutely everything was parked when I got this call in June to say we had this materials delay but it was almost like that," admitted Bennett.

"The first priority was dealing with that and everything else was slowed down.

"That's been my other objective to get that delivered and I hope to have some news pretty soon about our CEO."

Rangers are looking for a new chief executive after James Bisgrove left the club to take up a role in the Middle East.

Bennett took up the role of CEO after Bisgrove's departure with a club statement confirming: "The Rangers Board has implemented an interim executive structure and, together with John Bennett, Philippe Clement, Nils Koppen and the Football Board, will prioritise the execution of the summer transfer activity.

"John Bennett will assume the role of Executive Chairman on an interim basis to ensure continuity and support to the wider executive team as they focus on executing our plans for the summer, both on and off the pitch."

The chairman said at the time: “I would like to thank James for the work he has done at the club over the last five years as Commercial and Marketing Director, and latterly, as our CEO.

“Our commercial revenues grew significantly under James’ leadership, while in the last year, he was an integral part of the off-field restructuring the club has implemented.

“The executive team James helped shape has firmly established itself and I fully expect its momentum to be uninterrupted.

“We wish James every success with his new role.”
