Celtic have stepped up their bid to land Dundee United keeper Benjamin Siegrist as they eye up a replacement for departed Vasilis Barkas.
Record Sport understands Hoops chiefs have made contact with the Swiss shot stopper’s representatives and are looking to add the 30-year-old as competition to Scott Bain as Joe Hart’s back up.
Siegrist’s Tannadice contract is running down and the former Aston Villa trainee has options on both sides of the border, with Preston North End and Blackpool in the frame.
But Celtic are in the market to land an experienced keeper following the exit of Barkas to Utrecht on a season long loan move but are understood to have a list of targets.
Siegrist has been on the radar of Parkhead scouts for some time after impressing in his four seasons between the sticks for United.
The former Vaduz man was snapped up by former Tannadice boss Csaba Laszlo in 2018 and went on to make more than 150 appearances for the Tangerines as part of Robbie Neilson’s promotion winning squad and the side that qualified for Europe last season under Tam Courts.
Meanwhile, Hoops target Mohammad Abu Fani has been told he can leave Maccabi Haifa if the price is right.
Celtic are understood to be in the frame to land the 24-year-old midfielder along with Eintracht Frankfurt, Standard Liege and Royal Antwerp.
The Israel cap – who made his international debut against Scotland two years ago – has three years left on his current deal but is believed to be available for around £800,000.
