It’s been more than four years since the famous ITV comedy, Benidorm, ended its 10-series run, but the popular Spanish resort remains a firm favourite among UK holidaymakers. Despite a stuttering start after lockdown, it's now firing on all cylinders with Brits flocking back to their favourite party destination.
The resort may traditionally be known for its long, sandy beach and packed nightlife scene, but dig a little deeper and visitors can get a true sense of Spanish culture during a visit to the Costa Blanca resort.
Home to a trio of Blue Flag beaches, tapas restaurants and after-dark entertainment to suit all tastes, Benidorm visitors can also appreciate the traditional Spanish flavour the town has to offer. Full of surprises, the history of Benidorm dates back all the way back to 1325, with its winding cobbled old town, filled with alleys, whitewashed buildings and Baroque domed church.
The destination not only offers year-round sunshine, but it is within day-trip distance to the cultural hub of Valencia, a city made up of winding medieval streets, museums and historic sites. What’s more, a 40-minute drive through the mountains will take guests to Alicante, making it the perfect spot for holidaymakers to explore the city’s basilicas, castles and art galleries.
In contrast, Benidorm itself, is also renowned for its value-for-money bars and pubs with beer ranging from under two euros a pint and venues offering traditional British grub.
