BENGALURU: A phone call from Malaysia broke the silence of a Banaswadi household on a Friday morning early this year, when the third wave of Covid-19 was at its peak. The family’s youngest male member, who was away in the southeast Asian nation for years, had died in a road accident in Kuala Lumpur.
The bereaved mother and grandmother remained inconsolable in the house where they shared joyous memories of their beloved boy. The women were yearning to see him one last time, but there was a hurdle — their Indian passports had expired a few years ago.
