BENGALURU : The tech capital, which was the first city to be electrified in India, will soon have its first underground electric transformer.
A 500-kVA transformer is being set up underground at Malleswaram 15th Cross at a cost of Rs 2 crore. The transformer, which will thwart power-related accidents and power-supply snags, is being executed by Bescom and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Karnataka’s energy minister Sunil Kumar claims it is the first such project in the country.
According to the state energy department officials, the transformer will be built 8ft deep from the road surface. While Bescom engineers are working on electrical details, BBMP is carrying out civil work.
