Bengaluru: Cops ask farmers to bring thief to station on their own

BENGALURU: At least three police officials, including two constables attached with Vijayapura police station near Devanahalli in Bengaluru Rural district, are under the scanner for asking a few farmers to bring to the station a petty thief they had caught red-handed, instead of rushing to the spot and detaining him.

The incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday when a few farmers from Yambrahalli near Vijayapura caught the accused, identified as Shankrappa from Chikkaballapur, while he was cutting cables and barbed wires from the fences bordering their agricultural lands. Soon, they called Vijayapura police station, requesting them to come and arrest Shankrappa, who was suspected to be behind increasing thefts in the area.
