Bengaluru: Bar cashier shows empty bottles as stock, dupes owner

BENGALURU: A 34-year-old bar cashier went missing after allegedly pocketing over Rs 14 lakh by showing empty liquor bottles as stock in a bar and restaurant at Hennur. Police have registered a case against Kantharaj M based on a complaint by Somashekar, owner of New Karavali Bar & Restaurant.

Somashekar told police Kantharaj had packed empty beer, whiskey, brandy and wine bottles in boxes and showed them as available stock. He suspected foul play after he noticed business loss and asked Kantharaj to show him the stock on April 11. He opened the boxes and showed the empty bottles. He allegedly confessed he had sold the liquor and used Rs 10.7 lakh for personal purposes.

Kantharaj requested Somashekar not to file a police complaint and promised to return the money soon. Somashekar decided to give him a second chance. But he approached police after Kantharaj again showed fake stock and allegedly pocketed Rs 3.4 lakh in June.
