Bengals WR Tee Higgins shows support for UDFA WR Justyn Ross

One of the Cincinnati Bengals‘ top playmakers just showed some love (and what was maybe a sales pitch?) for one of the top undrafted wide receivers.

Tee Higgins tweeted that Clemson WR Justyn Ross will shock the world. Ross quote-tweeted Higgins just hoping for a chance.

Ross remained unsigned after going undrafted in this weekend’s draft, due to his medicals, most notably his injury where he underwent surgery for a bulging disc and congenital fusion in his neck and spine. He missed the entire 2020 season as a result. He also underwent foot surgery in November.

Before the injury, Ross was a Freshman All-American, posting 1,000 yards in 2018 with nine touchdowns. He followed that up with 865 yards and eight touchdowns in 2019 on 66 catches.

Even after the injury, Ross still caught 46 passes for 514 yards and three touchdowns.

There’s no denying the talent of Ross. But the medical red flags are all over the place. A 4.63 40-yard dash at his pro day also didn’t help his case. He’s a major risk. Even at that, you typically don’t see players like Ross last as long as he did as an undrafted free agent. Even Nevada QB Carson Strong, who dealt with a knee injury that clearly worried teams, was signed very shortly after the draft by the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Bengals would have made a ton of sense as a landing spot for Ross. They didn’t draft a wide receiver and have only reportedly added two undrafted free agent wide receivers (Coastal Carolina WR Jaivon Heiligh and Kansas WR Kwamie Lassiter II).

Ross has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, per Jordan Schultz.
