The Cincinnati Bengals don’t have any plans to trade star wideout Tee Higgins and Higgins himself has made it clear he wants to stay.
But that won’t stop speculation from popping up and it especially won’t stop other teams from at least picking up the phone and asking the Bengals about what it might take.
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer just said as much in a new column:
“The Bengals are going to get inquiries on Tee Higgins for the same reason the Titans, 49ers, Commanders and Seahawks did on their young receivers last year—Higgins is going into a contract year and will be expensive to keep. Compounding the problem for Cincinnati is that Ja’Marr Chase will be eligible for a new deal next year.”
The difference between the Bengals and those teams, though, is Cincinnati isn’t desperate to move a player who may or may not want out in exchange for droves of draft capital.
In fact, the Bengals have to feel pretty confident they can get Higgins an extension. Ja’Marr Chase has hinted Joe Burrow might take a friendly deal that helps the team keep all of his weapons.
And even if the Bengals were concerned they won’t get an extension done with Higgins, they have this upcoming final year of his rookie contract, then can franchise tag him if necessary.
With the goal being winning championships now, the Bengals don’t figure to blink at pretty much any offer, provided they even pick up the phone.
