Bengals’ Tanner Hudson taking over as LS with Cal Adomitis injured

Here’s a smaller, noteworthy nugget from the last week or so for the Cincinnati Bengals: Long-snapper Cal Adomitis has his foot in a boot and backup tight end Tanner Hudson has been called upon to handle those duties during practices.

Hudson, a college punter, volunteered to fill in for Adomitis rather than a coach stepping in and doing it during drills.

“Actually, Coach (tight ends coach James) Casey volunteered to do it and I said, ‘I think I can do it,'” Hudson said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “All the specialists have helped me out.”

This is just general housekeeping for most teams, though Bengals fans probably remember the importance of having somebody on the roster who can snap during an emergency basis.

Last year in the opener against the Steelers, Clark Harris went down with the season-ending injury and the multiple special teams errors with tight end Mitchell Wilcox stepping in as long-snapper cost the team the game.

That’s not to say Hudson ends up making the final roster because of this past week, but having that little extra bit of versatility in Cincinnati sure can’t hurt.

An offer for Bengals fans
