Cincinnati Bengals wide receivers dominated the conversation around the team this week.
Given the team’s elimination from playoff contention and the questions around the futures for both Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, it only makes sense.
On the Chase front, he’s playing through injury in a meaningless Week 18 game before considering rehab options for his shoulder.
And for Higgins, he’s a long shot to play and set to become a free agent this summer, painting his future with the team in a murky light.
The latest on both guys is interesting, so here’s a look at the must-know Bengals news, notes and quotes for January 6.
Tee Higgins update
Higgins didn’t practice for most of the week after returning to last week’s loss and playing injured. Considering he’s set to be a free agent, now the conversation shifts to whether he’s played his last game with the team.
Ja'Marr Chase surgery?
Chase says no surgery for his injured AC joint. It’s apparently an injury he can simply rehab, then improve the strength around the area over time, which could mean he’s back to 100 percent by next summer.
PFF gives Bengals a favorite
Looking ahead to the 2024 NFL draft, one name constantly comes up connected to the Bengals thanks to fans. Now PFF has declared that name a perfect fit for the team.
Chidobe Awuzie named Ed Block Courage Award winner -- Bengals.com
A big honor for cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, with the team’s site providing the following:
“Although the injury kept Chidobe off the field, his leadership during his recovery process was on full display as he remained a valuable veteran voice in the locker room,” said Bengals Director of Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer Matt Summers. “He worked extremely hard in the rehab process, leaned on his faith and trust, and maintained a level of consistency that allowed him to bounce back from the injury to start the 2023 season. Chido’s ability to battle through adversity and his commitment to community service makes him the ideal receipt for the Ed Block Courage Award.”
