More than usual, this felt like the year the Cincinnati Bengals might just make a move at the NFL trade deadline.
Or not.
The very same Bengals who had broken free of tradition in so many other ways decided not to make a move at the deadline — or couldn’t — and instead stood tall on the roster they’ve built.
With needs like running back, tight end and edge rusher and a market seeing names like Chase Young traded, it seemed like this might be the year.
Instead, the Bengals are left with the current roster and fans are left to debate about the team’s inaction.
*whispers*
None of the currently agreed upon trades are going to impact the playoffs at all beyond potentially the CY trade. I’m perfectly fine with holding onto our draft capital given that we’ll likely have to replace one or two of Reader/Jonah/Higgins.
I understand the angst

The Bengals have changed and fixed a lot of things over the last 5 years or so, but that phone/fax machine (iykyk) at PBS still doesn’t work during the season for trades…
Niners, Jags, etc all added to make a Super Bowl run.

I’ll take it as a win that Kansas City didn’t land a big-time receiver and the Ravens didn’t land a big time running back.

This is absolutely flawed thinking in the modern NFL.
You can literally can NEVER have enough good pass rushers. https://t.co/Jnbs5BMggY

Frustrating that they continue to overvalue their own picks instead of being aggressive with a potential Super Bowl run possible.

It's one thing to not make a deal. Would be nice to hear the Bengals at least worked the phones a little instead of putting zero effort into it.

The issue is they OVERvalue their own assets (picks) https://t.co/rWaK3Bdemd

Giving up a 3rd round pick for a 10-game rental then Chase Young leaves in FA on a big deal (because he's a former top-5 pick and that stays with you) and the 49ers will get a 3rd round comp pick in return.
It's good business. https://t.co/LcgBbzZfcv

Last year there were a few big trades. This year there were no moves that moved the needle at all. The biggest threats yesterday are the biggest threats today. I wish the trade deadline was later in the year. Too many teams have "hope" still.

“Myles Murphy >>> Chase Young”

Duke saying he doesn't like trading picks because they could end up being Geno or Marvin Jones .
Is insane and ridiculous https://t.co/SDthcVMaSV
