The Cincinnati Bengals have one of the best kickers in the NFL this year after making Evan McPherson a fifth-round pick.
Turns out another team in Ohio that dons the color orange had an eye on him too.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo dropped the nugget before the Bengals’ AFC championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs:
“That jersey by the way could have been orange, could have been in the AFC North…The Browns at some point would have drafted McPherson, I believe probably would’ve been the next round…the Bengals were wise to grab McPherson when they did.”
After a superb rookie regular season, McPherson hit all eight of his attempts in the playoffs, including the 52-yarder at the buzzer to beat the Tennessee Titans in the divisional round.
McPherson, by the way, called his shot before making the kick. It’s not too surprising to find out his jersey’s completely sold out with no more on the way.
That’s one way to get a little win over an AFC North and in-state rival.
From @gmfb Weekend on why the #Bengals are glad they drafted K Evan McPherson when they did. If not, they’d have probably seen him twice a year in a different orange AFC North jersey. pic.twitter.com/vdQkJDKAjt
