Bengals don’t sound likely to seek veteran CB help after Dax Hill injury

The Cincinnati Bengals aren’t likely to make a move in free agency or trade to help the ailing cornerback position after losing Dax Hill for the season.

That approach mimics what Bengals fans have already seen despite injury issues elsewhere.

One simply has to read between the lines on this front, as the Bengals clearly have big hopes for rookie corner Josh Newton and rookie safety Daijahn Anthony to pick up some of the slack.

Bengals coaches have also talked highly of the impending return for D.J. Ivey.

“The arrow was pointing up and he was getting momentum. We need him,” cornerbacks coach Charles Burks said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “It shows you how valuable Dax is. We need multiple players to replace him, but we’ve also got talent.”

Ivey was a seventh-round success story for the Bengals from the 2023 draft who suffered an ACL injury last December and it sounds like he’ll be back sooner rather than later.

So while the idea of going to get an outside name for help after Hill’s injury might sound nice, the Bengals will once again lean heavily on their drafting, for better or worse.
