KOLKATA: With 100% occupancy returning to theatres and the Poila Baisakh weekend around the corner, the war for getting prime-time shows has begun between makers of Hindi, English and Bengali movies, bringing back memories of the pre-pandemic era. While exhibitors are happy that Bollywood and Hollywood movies are raking in the moolah at ticket windows, makers of Bengali films want good timings too.
Among the talked-about Bengali movies to be released are Arindam Sil’s ‘Mahananda’, Joydeep Mukherjee’s ‘The Eken’, Parambrata Chattopadhyay’s ‘Abhijaan’, Rahool Mukherjee’s ‘Kishmish’, ‘Raavan’ and Anik Dutta’s ‘Aparajito’. But getting good timings for all might end in verbal skirmishes. Producer Firdausul Hasan, who is releasing ‘Mahananda’ on April 8, wants support from exhibitors. But the road to release might be challenging with the current demand for ‘Kashmir Files’ and ‘RRR’ that are expected to get screen time next week too.
