Ben Godfrey feels the "DNA that runs through" Rangers makes the club a good fit for him - because he prides himself on being a leader.
The centre-back was announced as the club's third summer signing today, arriving on a season-long loan from Atalanta with an option to make the deal permanent next summer included.
Godfrey was once signed for £20 million when making the move from Norwich City to Everton, and was a mainstay in the Premier League for a couple of seasons. The move to Italy didn't work out, though, and Rangers is the fourth loan away as he looks to revive his career in the Scottish Premiership.
Giving his first interview to RTV, the England cap was asked why a move to Ibrox was right for him, and said: "The size of the club is obvious.
"It's recognised worldwide. And yeah, it feels like a massive honour to be wearing the shirt this season. I'm looking forward to meeting the boys and hopefully helping this club achieve, what it deserves to, which is silverware and exciting times.
"I think the DNA that runs through the club matches me as a person. And that's something that I spoke to the manager about as well. I think it's a good fit. I think I think that this year will be will be successful for for us as a as a club.
"And obviously there have been heights in in my career where I've been at a good level and I'm desperate to get back there, and I'll do everything to make sure that I am."
Some fans may have been aware of the 28-year-old when he was at his peak in the Premier League, but he may have fallen off their radar since.

He has told them to expect a leader on the pitch, who will always give his all.
"They can expect me to give 110% every week and every day in training as well," he explained.
"That's the type of person I am. I like to lead. Lead by example. Front-footed, aggressive. That's something that I've always had throughout my career. "
Godfrey knows Youssef Chermiti from his time at Everton, and there are plenty of other English players he could have touched base with.
But he says he didn't need to ask anybody about making the move.
"I didn't need to", he insisted. "I knew I knew enough about the size of the club. I knew players who were here years ago.
"It just seems that everyone who has a spell at Rangers, always leaves with good memories and always follows the club and supports them. So, I think when you hear things like that, obviously the badge speaks for itself.
"It was exciting when I heard there was an opportunity to come."
On Chermiti, he added: "Me and Youssef played together at Everton. He's still young, a good player, and has loads of potential. I'm excited to see how well he does this year. He's a great guy as well."
