Ben Affleck’s dad said he had “no idea” that his son was engaged to Jennifer Lopez until he read about it in the media like the rest of the world.
The 49-year-old Oscar-winner popped the question to the Jenny From The Block hit-maker, 52, with a green heart-shaped engagement ring earlier this month.
The couple, fondly dubbed Bennifer, were previously engaged 20 years ago but Lopez broke it off due to the intense interest by the media in their relationship.
They sent shockwaves through the showbiz circuit when they rekindled their relationship in 2021.
Dad Timothy Affleck said, despite not being informed personally about the nuptials, he is “happy” about the prospect of having J-Lo as a daughter-in-law at last.
“I haven’t talked to them in ages, but if everything one reads on the internet is true, they’re having a good time together,” he told The Sun.
Timothy Affleck, 78, lives alone in New York but he said he is still close to the actor and director’s mother and his ex-wife Chris Boldt who generally keeps him up-to-date.
Revealing that he met Lopez the first time that she and his son dated, he told the paper: “There’s a lot I admire about her, she’s quite a special woman. She’s a hard worker and I admire that. I think she deserves everything she gets.”
After Affleck and Lopez parted ways, Ben Affleck went on to marry actress Jennifer Garner with whom he shares three children - Violet, 16, Seraphina, 13, and Samuel, 10.
Lopez, meanwhile, tied the knot with singer Marc Anthony and they have 14-year-old twins Emme and Max together.
Timothy Affleck said he is unaware of any wedding plans but he is hopeful about getting an invite.
He said: “It’s always great to see my grandkids and my son. It’ll be nice to see Jennifer. I hope it all works out well for them.”
The Standard reached out to Ben Affleck’s representative for further comment.
