Beloved indie game "Antonblast" just got a major update for the Nintendo Switch, which boosts the game's performance to 60fps alongside other changes.
Many players have long been complaining about "Antonblast" having subpar performance on Nintendo's handheld console when it originally launched earlier this year. It featured some slowdown during the game's more chaotic moments of gameplay.
Antonblast Gets Major Update
These were said to "cheapen the experience enough to be disappointing" despite the game's relatively appealing premise and experience. The situation is not something that can be considered ideal for a 2D platformer where speed is a big issue.
Fortunately, the latest update for "Antonblast" fixes this issue that gives the game a much-needed performance boost and increases its frame rate to 60fps. The announcement also noted that bug fixes were also added.
Developer Summitsphere has not provided exact details on what exactly these bug issues were trying to fix. "Antonblast" is a stylish 2D platformer that seems like it tries to pay homage to Nintendo's long-quiet "Wario Land" franchise, according to Nintendo Life.
"Antonblast is described as a fast-paced action platform that the developer previously said is a mix between the "Crash Bandicoot" and "Wario Land" titles. The game originally launched on PC Dec. 3, 2024, and came out on the Switch on Dec. 13, 2024.
The latter's date was a delay in order to give the studio more time to optimize the game before it arrived on Nintendo's handheld console. Despite this, many players argued that the game's Switch version had poor performance and suffered from frequent crashes.
A Performance Boost
Following the announcement of the update, many players quickly confirmed the improvements that they felt while playing the game on the Nintendo Switch.
However, some people said that "Antonblast's" frame rate on the Nintendo handheld was still inconsistent and sometimes dipped below its target, Game Rant said.
It is relatively common for the Nintendo Switch to have more graphically demanding games that are forced to compromise, including lower performance and worse visual fidelity.
One example is the Switch port of CD Projekt Red's "The Witcher III: The Wild Hunt," which struggled to maintain 30fps at 540p.
The Nintendo Switch consoles are powered by variants of the Nvidia Tegra X1, which is a system-on-chip that was already considered outdated when the first console model came out in 2017.
The latest major update for "Antonblast" comes after the game suffered two delays where it was originally supposed to come out in April 2024 but instead got pushed back to December 2024, according to My Nintendo News.
