Belgium's egg-linked Salmonella outbreak has climbed to 300 confirmed illnesses, and the announcement came the same week that British health officials declared a national outbreak of the same bacterium, with one death and more than a third of patients hospitalized. Both investigations point to eggs. Neither has closed.
The Belgian figure, confirmed by the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain to Food Safety News, is up from 236 in May. Patients range in age from under 1 to 96; women make up 45 percent of cases; and illness onset spans from February 2025 through late July 2026.
