Northern Ireland prison justice system software company Core Systems has been bought by a US firm for an undisclosed sum.
New owner Multi-Health Systems Inc. (MHS) said the acquisition will help it to service an increasing need from public safety agencies globally for technology and solutions which helps prevent reoffending.
Belfast-based Core Systems has been in operation for around 20 years, providing technology for prisons and correctional agencies across the world. Its suite of products helps offenders in custody, on probation and serving community sentences to “take an active role in transitioning back into the community successfully”.
Originally focused on biometric security systems which allow or prevent prisoners access within prisons, it now provides software which reduces paperwork for both prison officers and offenders, which allows offenders to view evidence securely and which helps those in the criminal justice system learn.
Patricia O’Hagan, managing director Core Systems, welcomed the acquisition.

MHS provides scientifically validated assessments for clients in educational, clinical, corporate, public safety, government, military, pharmaceutical, and research settings.
MHS CEO Hazel Wheldon said the acquisition offers a range of synergies and will help create safer communities.
