Belfast International Airport trolley gets new lease of life in Harry Potter recycle

An old airport trolley that was unable to be reused has found a new lease of life inspired by the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Last year, Belfast International Airport was approached by a local family who loved the magical book and film franchise inquiring whether any of their old trollies were looking for a new home.

The family were able to transform it into a scene straight off the screen where Harry and Ron run through the platform at Kings Cross Station for their first year at Hogwarts which the airport shared on their social media.

Their post read: "Harry Potter fan?

"As part of our Corporate Responsibility policy most of our damaged baggage trollies get repaired or recycled for parts, but fortunate timing allowed for one of our irreparable trollies to be recycled in a completely different way!

"All aboard the Hogwarts Express, Platform 9 ¾ !"

Their efforts to reuse and recycle their trollies, even in unique cases like this, help Belfast International Aipor t work towards their goal to send zero waste to landfill by 2030.

A spokesperson for the airport said: “As part of the airport's corporate responsibility strategy we aim to reuse and recycle wherever we can. Our experienced team of engineers recycle and repair our trollies so that they can be reused again. There are around 700 trollies in the airport and as part of the VINCI Airports network, it's our environmental ambition to optimise resources with the objective to send zero waste to landfill by 2030.

"We were approached by a local family who were huge Harry Potter fans and we were able to salvage a trolley that wasn’t suitable for recycle in the normal way and we were able to gift it to them. The family then created the amazing Harry Potter scene in their back garden for their grandson.

"We were delighted to have been able to help out this family from our local community with their request and are over the moon with what they have created. Sadly we don’t have trollies to give out to all the Harry Potter fans but we hope everyone enjoys seeing the result!”
