Belfast stag evades Croke Park security and poses for photo with Kilkenny star TJ Reid

A hurler from Bredagh rounded off his stag weekend in fine style by walking out onto the pitch at Croke Park and getting a photo with Kilkenny star TJ Reid on Sunday.

The Cats had just lifted the Bob O’Keefe Cup thanks to a remarkable goal in stoppage-time from Cillian Buckley to deny Galway in a pulsating Leinster SHC final.

Ballyhale ace Reid scored 0-9 in Sunday’s provincial decider and was celebrating with his colleagues when he was approached by a stranger dressed in a full Kilkenny kit.

Aaron Maguire from Belfast was wearing the famous amber and black stripes with the number 12 on his back - the one worn by Billy Ryan in Sunday’s game.

The Bredagh clubman was able to stroll out onto the pitch, past the match-day stewards before approaching the Kilkenny players.

Pitch invasions are a common sight at the majority of GAA venues and players often remain on the pitch long after the full-time whistle to sign autographs and take pictures with fans, although Croke Park is the one exception to this.

To Reid’s credit, he took the whole incident in his stride and happily posed for a photo with Maguire and even shared it on his Instagram account.

Kilkenny will return to Croke Park for next month’s All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship semi-final following their 4-21 to 2-26 win over Henry Shefflin’s side.
