A number of city centre roads have been closed ahead of the arrival of US President Joe Biden into Belfast.

His arrival in Northern Ireland on Tuesday evening marks the beginning of his four-day visit to the Island of Ireland which coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.

Ulster University confirmed President Biden would give a key address at their new Belfast campus on Wednesday before travelling to Dublin for the next stage of his tour.

The PSNI has advised that there will be a number of traffic delays across Belfast on Tuesday and Wednesday and motorists should allow extra time for their journey.

A number of city centre streets were closed on Monday to facilitate preparations for the President's arrival.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Motorists are reminded that there is no vehicular access to James Street, Franklin Street, Bedford Street and Clarence Street West in Belfast city centre from Monday 10 April until Wednesday afternoon, 12 April.

"Police will be on the ground facilitating pedestrians and businesses in the area will be operating as usual.

"York Street, Donegal Street, Academy Street and Frederick Street, in the vicinity of the new Ulster University campus, will be closed to vehicular traffic from around 9pm on Tuesday 11 April until the afternoon of Wednesday 12 April as part of the policing operation to support the US presidential visit."

They have also advised about possible delays in the area of Belfast International Airport where Air Force One is set to land and that anyone travelling to the airport factor in delays.
