Belfast boxer hits out after fight on Michael Conlan undercard is cancelled

Belfast boxer James McGivern has hit out after it emerged his fight against Tony McGlynn had been cancelled at the eleventh hour.

The two unbeaten prospects were due to appear on the undercard of Michael Conlan's massive homecoming show on Saturday night at the SSE Arena.

But reports surfaced on Friday that the bout was not going ahead, with some rumours suggesting McGivern had pulled out of the eagerly anticipated clash.

Taking to Instagram, McGivern said "there's plenty of b******* flying about" as he addressed the rumours.

He said: "Just to clear a few things up, there's plenty of b******* flying about.

"I pulled out of no fight, don't be kidding yourself on. I've been told to bite my tongue that there is an official statement being released as to why the fight is off and why I couldn't get a replacement opponent in time.

"I'm absolutely gutted I don't get to fight in my home show but it's out of my hands.

"I'm ready to rock and roll and the powers at be pulled the plug unfortunately but be under no illusions, I didn't pull out of nothing."

Michael Conlan takes on Miguel Marriaga in his eagerly anticipated comeback fight on Saturday night. It is the main event on a stacked card at the SSE Arena.

The bill had already lost one fight from the card after it emerged Lewis Crocker would not be appearing after he picked up a rib injury in his final sparring session.
