What’s New: Beijing’s ex-health chief Yu Luming pleaded guilty Thursday to taking 10.5-million-yuan ($1.5 million) worth of bribes in exchange for his help with issues including securing hospital project contracts, according to the court hearing his case.
The former head of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission stood trial Thursday in a court in Zhangjiakou, North China’s Hebei province, on charges of bribery, the court said in a statement.
The 61-year-old is accused of accepting money and valuables for abusing his power in various former roles in Beijing between 2001 and 2019 to help others obtain land use rights and hospital project contracts, among other things, the statement said.
Yu admitted the charges and will be sentenced later, the court said.
The background: Yu is the third fallen senior official to be tried for graft this year after Xu Ming and Hao Chunrong, former deputy head of the then State Administration of Grain and ex-deputy governor of Liaoning province, respectively.
Yu was expelled from the Communist Party and dismissed from public office in July, after he was put under investigation in April for alleged corruption.
