Fans have quickly taken to social media to share their reactions to the first trailer for Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The long-awaited follow-up from director Tim Burton is due to land in theaters later this year and, so far, fans are loving what they’ve seen.
It is clear from the initial reactions that Tim Burton may have done the near-impossible and brought Beetlejuice back in a belated sequel that could potentially match the original movie.
Directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay by the writing team of Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and based on a story by Seth Grahame-Smith, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sees Michael Keaton return as Betelgeuse alongside Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, Catherine O'Hara as Delia Deetz, Monica Bellucci as Betelgeuse's wife, and Willem Dafoe as a ghost detective.
Taking the lead this time around is Wednesday star Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Lydia's daughter. The actress has teased her role in the Beetlejuice sequel, comparing the role to that of Wednesday Addams in the hit Netflix series.
Michael Keaton, meanwhile, has heaped praise on Ortega in the lead, declaring that she’s got “the tone.”
Not only do fans love what they’ve seen from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, so does Keaton himself, with the actor revealing recently that he has now seen the movie and it is “beautiful.”
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a sequel to Beetlejuice, which was released all the way back in 1988. The first outing introduces audiences to Barbara and Adam Maitland who, after dying in a car accident, find themselves stuck haunting their country residence. When the unbearable Deetzes and teen daughter Lydia buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice, a rambunctious spirit whose 'help' quickly becomes dangerous for the Maitlands and innocent Lydia.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is set to be theatrically released by Warner Bros. Pictures on September 6, 2024.
