Beautyrest Black vs Saatva Classic mattress: Which luxury hybrid is best for your sleep?

Beautyrest Black vs Saatva Classic mattress.

Customizable mattresses offer sleepers the ability to tweak a mattress’ feel to their exact sleeping style and body type, making it easier to curate the perfect sleep set up. In this Beautyrest Black vs Saatva Classic mattress comparison, we’re looking at two of the best luxury innerspring hybrids, helping you to decide which one is best for you.

The Saatva Classic is our top pick in our best mattresses round-up, but the Beautyrest brand is gaining in popularity, and offers more options for customization than the Saatva. Neither of these mattresses are budget options but, if you’re tempted by either, you’ll be pleased to know that both brands have discounts on these mattresses, which we may even see increased in the Memorial Day sales

In this comparison, we’ll look at how each mattress compares in key areas and help you to work out which one will suit your sleeping style best. Let’s get started in this Beautyrest Black vs Saatva Classic showdown.

Beautyrest Black vs Saatva Classic mattress: Specs

Beautyrest Black vs Saatva Classic Mattress: Price, trial & warranties

  • The Saatva Classic regularly offers 12-15% off MSRP
  • Beautyrest offer discounts around all major sales events
  • Saatva offer a lifetime warranty, compared to 10 years from Beautyrest

Both the Saatva and Beautyrest are premium mattresses, even with any discounts on offer. You’ll never pay MSRP for the Saatva, and you should expect 12-15% off, or we’ve sometimes seen tiered money-off deals where the discounts increase with the size of the bed. Even with these discounts, the Saatva is still in the premium bracket. Do note that the Twin size of the mattress isn’t always included in the sales.

Saatva has been gradually raising the MSRP of its mattresses, meaning you can expect to pay $1,781 with the evergreen discount on offer for a queen mattress. Still, we think this is an excellent and very competitive price for a luxury innerspring hybrid. In short, if you were to buy a bed of this quality in store, you’d pay a lot more for it. Saatva can keep the price down because it doesn’t have bricks and mortar stores, so it passes those savings on to customers.

Beautyrest tend to concentrate its discounts around major sales events, and there’s currently $300-$600 off mattresses, depending on which option you choose. Depending on which version of the Beautyrest you choose, you could end up paying up to $5,299 so you do need to be careful which options you choose for your budget. You can keep an eye on the latest discounts by bookmarking our mattress sales page.

In addition to price we also need to look at the length of mattress trialsmattress warranties and the type of shipping. Saatva definitely comes out on top here, with a 365-night trial, lifetime warranty and free white glove delivery. However, there is a $99 to return or exchange the mattress. Beautyrest also have white glove delivery, but there’s only a 100-night trial and 10-year warranty on offer.

Beautyrest Black vs Saatva Classic Mattress: Materials & design

  • Both mattresses are hybrid innersprings
  • The Saatva Classic has three firmness options and two heights
  •  The Beautyrest has customizable height, firmness and pillow top options

The Saatva Classic comes in two different heights (11.5” and 14.5”) and three different firmness options (Plush Soft, Luxury Firm and Firm). Underneath the 3” thick Euro pillow top (made with organic cotton and with zoned quilting in the middle for extra lumbar support), you’ll find a CertiPUR-US certified memory foam layer that’s specifically geared towards healthy spinal alignment.

Next up, a layer of individually wrapped 14.5-gauge recycled steel coils sit on top of a support base made up of 13-gauge tempered steel support coils. This is all wrapped up in a foam encasement around the perimeter to stabilize the whole mattress.

Be warned, the Beautyrest Black options are vast, so ensure you set aside enough time aside to figure out what options you want and how much you want to spend. The mattress comes in four different ‘Series’, which each getting progressively more expensive.

At the bottom end, Series One has the brand’s patented Sleep Climate Technology in its cover, gel memory foam for pressure relief, a comfort layer of cashmere, alpaca wool and silk and individually wrapped pocket coils for support and motion isolation. Go all the way up to the Series Four and you’ll find extra memory foam layers, latex and 4K nano coils sitting alongside the pocketed coil system.

Beautyrest Black vs Saatva Classic Mattress: Comfort & support

  • The Saatva is available in three firmness options and two heights
  • The Beautyrest is fully customizable to your sleep needs
  • Both mattresses have a more traditional ‘lying on top’ feel

The Saatva Classic is available in three firmness options and two heights (the only difference here is the height of the springs). We tested the Luxury Firm in our review, which is the brand’s most popular comfort level and is, according to Saatva, designed to suit all sleeping positions. Our testers certainly agreed that it was a comfortable choice for most sleepers, although lightweight side sleepers are likely to find it too firm.

In our review we found that the Luxury Firm offered great pressure relief, along with a fairly traditional innerspring feel. This is a mattress that you sleep on top of, rather than sinking into. There’s good bounce from the coil system and the pillow top provides plenty of cushioning comfort.

We rate the way this mattress keeps the spine aligned and you’ll also feel that your pressure points are kept cushioned. As far as the other options go, the Plush Soft is one of the best mattresses for side sleepers who will feel cushioned at their pressure points of hips and shoulders. At the other end of the scale the Firm mattress is one of top picks in our best firm mattresses round-up, and is ideally suited to those who enjoy a firm mattress, are of a heavier build or sleep on their fronts.

The Beautyrest Black also offers customization, and you’ll get may more options than you do with the Saatva. This is a luxurious mattress, with plenty of layers of cushioning comfort. You’ll get gel memory foam and cooling tech in the cover to keep sleepers comfortable, along with pocketed coils for support and pressure relief. The cover also has gel memory foam quilted into the surface for immediate lumbar support.

Across the four series, you’ll find options for Plush, Medium, Firm and Extra Firm, plus the option to add in either a plush, medium, or firm pillow top. The Plush options are best suited to side sleepers, which the Medium and Firm will suit back sleepers. The Extra Firm is designed for heavier bodies and stomach sleepers, although these mattresses do appear to sleep a little softer than the Saatva overall according to customer feedback. Pressure relief is excellent, with the mattress being a great choice for those suffering with aches and pains.

Beautyrest Blacks vs Saatva Classic mattress: Temperature regulation

  • Both mattresses offer good temperature regulation
  • Saatva’s double layer of coils provides lots of space for air to circulate
  • Beautyrest offer cooling tech in the cover of the Black, with extra cooling options in Series Two upwards

When we tested the Saatva Classic all our testers stayed cool and comfortable throughout the night. The Saatva has very little foam along with a double layer of coils creating plenty of space for airflow. There’s also a cotton cover that’s naturally breathable.

All series of the Beautyrest Black come with the brand’s Sleep Climate Technology in the cover to help transfer heat away from the body. From Series Two onwards, you’ll also get gel memory foam quilted into the surface, alongside a layer of Micro Diamon memory foam, infused with diamond particles. These are designed to help draw more heat away from the body.
