Changes to your daily routine and general lifestyle can have a huge impact on your skin, so you can expect to see and feel differences to your skin's texture and complexion while you are fasting.
Understanding how your body adapts to a lack of drinking water and changes to your usual sleeping pattern is key to prevent your skin from becoming dry during the holy month of Ramadan.
Dr Rolanda Wilkerson, principle beauty scientist at Olay, is shedding a light on whether your normal skincare and make-up regime should change and what ingredient you should look out for in products.
Rolanda told the Mirror: "Fasting in the sense of not eating food isn't really a problem - our body gets used to our food intake, which is why people do not tend to see changes to their skin during new diets or fads which are usually temporary.
"Yet, what does impact the skin's look, feel and hydration levels is the lack of drinking water and other fluids.
"This is the real challenge which people often bypass and is one of the root causes for drier than normal skin."
Though this doesn't mean that you need to have a whole new skincare routine during Ramadan - one simple extra step is enough.
"The products you use should not necessarily change during Ramadan, as hopefully you've found a product that suits your skin type and complexion," Rolanda explained.
"However, one of the biggest changes to your skin health in general would be related to the abstinence from water and fluid consumption during the day.
"A great way to rectify and prevent this dryness and dullness would be to add an extra portion of moisturisation through skincare, either as part of your daily night or morning routine."
Rolanda doesn't advise suddenly changing all your skincare products overnight, but there is one ingredient that she would recommend using.
"There are no ingredients to avoid as such, given different products and ingredients work for various diverse skin types and complexions," Rolanda explained.
"In skincare, hyaluronic acid is commonly used as a powerful humectant which, depending on the molecular weight, can hold many times its own weight in water, and provide surface skin hydration."
Rolanda advises using a product with hyaluronic acid, such as Olay's new Hyaluronic 24+ Vitamin B5 collection that "works great for when fluid intake is reduced".
