“Beautiful building” opposite Nottingham Castle is placed on the market

Nottingham visitors have mixed views on what should be done with this “beautiful” Grade II building. Severn's House on Castle Road, Nottingham has been placed on the market as an office for £499,000.

The character property, located opposite Nottingham Castle, covers almost 1000sq ft and people are divided on what they would like to see happen to the building. Margaret Curl and Malcom Varley, both of Clifton, are keen to see the building restored to its former glory, as Margaret used to visit the building to buy doolies and “beautiful handmade lace.”

She said: “They shouldn’t knock it down, whatever they do. This needs a little bit of TLC, or perhaps a lot, and it needs to have the same façade. This would be lovely if they restored it, but not alter it.”

Friends, Leah Devlin and Dominique Black, both of Glasgow, were also keen for the building to be revitalised. When asked if it was the type of building she would like to live in, Dominique said: “Maybe not, it looks like it would need a lot of work.”

Leah added: “It looks like something out of Harry Potter. I feel that they should do something nice with it as it would be a shame for this place to go to waste.”

Dr Rob Ellis, of Nottingham, said: “I like it as a historic building, but I don’t think I would live in it as it’s quite small. I hope whoever does buy it does something nice with it.”

Kieran Wilkinson, of Nottingham, and Jordan Rowley, of Long Eaton, agreed that it would be nice for the building to become another cafe or restaurant. Kieran said: “It would be amazing, I bet it’s listed so it would be a pain to do, but it would be beautiful.”

Jordan added: “It could be another little business, have a pub at the bottom and then live above it. But as long as they preserve it that’s the main thing.”

Another Nottingham visitor said: “It’s a beautiful building, it wasn’t originally there but it has been moved. There’s not many in Nottingham left like that.”

More information on the property is available on the Rightmove website.
