The Chicago Bears kick off the preseason against the Tennessee Titans Saturday at Soldier Field, and it sounds like we’ll see some of the starters.
Head coach Matt Eberflus confirmed that quarterback Justin Fields will play Saturday, along with select starters who will “play here and there.”
Eberflus explained the team is working through how many series each player will play, and they’ll assign specific workloads for each individual player. That could be 7-10 plays for some guys or 12-15 for others.
Ultimately whether the unit operates efficiently should impact just how big the workload is for players. If things are jelling, there’s no need to keep them out there longer than a series.
As for what Eberflus is looking for from the offense, he’s looking for crisp operation, protection calls and adjustments, among other things.
With Fields confirmed to suit up for Saturday’s opener, the expectation is we’ll see his new WR1 DJ Moore out there for the first time. We’ve heard about their connection throughout the offseason and now training camp, and Saturday would provide us a first glimpse of the duo in live action.
