Justin Fields emerged as one of the NFL’s most electric players last season with his elite rushing ability, making things difficult on opposing defenses.
Last season, Fields rushed for 1,043 yards, which ranked second all-time among quarterbacks behind only Lamar Jackson (1,206).
Fields was recently asked to name his top five running quarterbacks in NFL history, in an interview with All Things Covered Podcast, and he wasn’t shy about throwing his name into the list.
“I’m definitely in the top five,” he said.
Fields’ top five, in no particular order, includes Michael Vick, Cam Newton, Jackson, himself and Steve Young. While Fields is only in his third season, you could certainly make the case for Fields being one of the best to ever run the ball as a quarterback.

On top of rushing for the second most yards among quarterbacks in NFL history last season, Fields also set a record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a regular season game with 178 against the Dolphins (and his cleats are currently sitting in the Pro Football Hall of Fame). Fields also rushed for 60 yards in nine games last season, even eclipsing 100 rushing yards three times.
Fields made it clear at the end of last season that he doesn’t want to rush for 1,000 yards every season. But his mobility will still be a part of the Bears’ offense, and something defenses will have to contend with when they face Chicago.
