The Chicago Bears recorded their first win of the season against the Washington Commanders last Thursday night, where there were a number of young players who contributed.
That included fifth-round rookie cornerback Terell Smith, who saw extended action in place of injured starter Jaylon Johnson, who was out with a hamstring injury.
Buy Bears TicketsSmith rose to the occasion, playing a key role in the victory. He totaled six tackles and both forced and recovered a fumble. He was also among Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded rookies with a 77.3 grade.
So it’s no surprise to see Smith among the players nominated for Pepsi Rookie of the Week, alongside Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, Dolphins running back De’Von Achane, Broncos running back Jaleel McLaughlin, Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter, Colts receiver Josh Downs.

Johnson is expected to return to the lineup this week against the Minnesota Vikings, but it’s fair to wonder if Smith could perhaps push fellow rookie Tyrique Stevenson for reps this season.
It certainly appears that the Bears have a potential stud in Smith moving forward.
