Beaming Meghan Markle steps out in LA after Archie and Lilibet's royal titles released

Meghan Markle stepped out with a huge smile on her face in Los Angeles following the release of her children's royal titles.

This week, she and Prince Harry confirmed their daughter was baptised last Friday as Princess Lilibet Diana in a christening at their home in California.

The Duchess was spotted out for the first time on Wednesday with a pal as they climbed into a waiting SUV.

As a bystander called out to wish her happy International Women’s Day, she could not hide her beaming smile.

Despite the sunny weather, Meghan, 41, was decked out in all an black outfit matched with white shoes.

It comes after a statement by she and husband Harry described their children’s titles as their “birthright.”

A spokesman for the couple said: "The children's titles have been a birthright since their grandfather became Monarch.

“This matter has been settled for some time in alignment with Buckingham Palace."

The royal family’s official website has now been changed to reflect that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s children will use the titles prince and princess.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's spokesman said: “I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor.”

Previously they featured on the line of succession page as Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.

Lilibet, one, and her older brother Archie, three, weren't given HRH titles at birth due to their position on the list - sixth and seventh, respectively.

Harry and Meghan are understood to be keen to not deny their children their birthright, but to allow them the chance to decide for themselves when older whether to drop or keep using the titles.

The rules set out by King George V in 1917 mean Archie and Lili, as the children of a son of a sovereign, are automatically a prince and a princess and also now have an HRH style if they choose to use it.

It was the same situation for Prince William and Princess Kate's children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, however the Queen stepped in to change the rules.

Prince George needs to be a HRH as he will one day be king.

Despite Meghan’s smiles, it had earlier transpired both King Charles and Prince William declined an invitation to attend the California christening of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s daughter.

An insider told the Mirror: “To have the two most senior royals and their wives fly to the States for Lilibet’s christening would have been a massive operation both in terms of security and planning.

“Under the cardinal rule for royal travel, Charles and William cannot fly together so it would have needed at least two flights to have them attend.”
